A dear friend of mine lost her brother to a senseless and extremely tragic act of violence that ended in death. He was only 17. As I put myself in her shoes (having both a younger sister and an older brother), the song started to spill out. I think about the other side of this life quite a bit. It keeps me up some nights. That idea of riding straight through the sunset...out of this Universe and into a land of complete peace - it’s beautiful to me. Having lost quite a few loved ones along the way, I realize it ain’t gonna get any easier because we’re certainly not getting any younger. Our clocks are ticking and our time will run out. But that doesn’t have to be the end. Perhaps it’s the True Beginning. “Indigo” is for anyone who’s ever lost someone dear to them and can’t wait to see them on the other side of this troubled, dark world. It’s a call to those who are already there to “light fires inside” of us and “hear our cries.” I believe they hear us. My hope for this song is that it will take the listener there and give them a renewed sense of peace that there’s more to grief than just sadness. There’s a beauty in passing onto the next life. No more goodbyes.
