You never see it coming...that blindsided sucker punch. In the aftermath, you’re forced to live in that grief every day and steadily breathe in the black air for a long time. “I’ve always known that love is gambling / I just never thought that I could lose on you.” That line is one so many of us could sing. Love is always a risk as well as a choice. I had faith and an incredibly special certainty that I’d found the diamond in the rough. I thought I’d finally been dealt a winning hand after years and years of heartache. But unfortunately, this song had to be written. There was no stopping the melody or the lyric or the fact that the first things to spill out onto the page were the words “say goodbye, we’re history.” It all came out quickly and completely effortless. The minute I heard it back through the speakers in the studio, I immediately knew it was the opener for RECOIL. So many of us know the feeling - the knowledge that your best friend/partner in crime is gone. It’s much like grieving a death, only they’re still alive somewhere out there. Sometimes all we have are question marks. But thank God for music as a tool for pouring your heart and soul out. It’s the best therapy I could ever ask for.
